About
"My recent work takes a unique look at memory, nostalgia and beauty in the mundane. Each set of marks are meant to leave an impression of the urban environment—a living, breathing, ever-changing organism. My inspiration comes from the many layers of colors, lines and texture left by history and gone mostly unnoticed as the muted background of the city…My work celebrates those layers in the space between realism and abstraction. "
Cathey White is an artist, educator and native Philadelphian. She holds a BFA in fine art and education from Moore College of Art & Design. White is constantly inspired by her city and the beauty found in typically unnoticed places and things around her. The colors, lines and texture of the city become the basis of her canvas…each layer building; one story atop the next creating a depth to the work that is alive with the wonder, excitement and grittiness as that of the streets of Philadelphia.
White’s work has been featured at various shops and galleries including: The Brooklyn Art Library, Dock Street Brewery, Moore College of Art & Design, Philadelphia Distilling, B Square Gallery, House Gallery 1816, Tiny Room For Elephants Festival, City Arts Salon, 1040 Creative and the NoName Art Gallery.
